Newsfeed: Social Media Integrations

Ability to connect social media platforms with Newsfeed

Updated over 3 months ago

The social media integrations can be enabled by Compass staff from the attributes page. Currently this integration is only configured to Facebook.

To have this feature enabled, please contact our Support Team.

Configuring Social Media platforms

With the social media attributes enabled a button called “Configure social media integrations“ will now appear on the News Feed Management page.

Clicking this button will open a panel that will show a section for each social media platform that is enabled for the school. Each section will have a button to link a social media account.

Facebook

Linking a Facebook account will redirect the user to a page that will display a pop-up window to allow Compass access to post to their school’s page. If the pop-up does not appear for the user they’ll need to enable popups for this webpage and start the process again from News Feed Management.

After completing the Facebook popup the user will be redirected to a success page that will then allow them to navigate back to News Feed Management.

Checking your Social Media Configuration

The status of the social media configuration can be checked from the News Feed Management Dashboard by clicking on the “Configure social media integrations“ button. In the panel that appears the status can be checked for the following statuses.

Not Configured

Working Configuration

A correctly configured integration will show a green tick icon next to the heading of the social media platform.

Expired/Expiring Tokens

Facebook tokens have a 60 day expiry and will need to be re-authenticated after that. When a token is within 14 days of expiring the Facebook heading within the social media configuration panel will display a warning indicating that it needs to be re-linked.

A similar warning will be displayed in the newsfeed editing panel.

If a Facebook token is expired it’ll display a warning and disable the “Share to Facebook“ checkbox on the editing modal.

Checking a Newsfeed Item’s Social Media Status

Once an item has been posted a success icon will display in the edit modal with a tooltip indicating when it was shared. Once shared the checkbox will be disabled.

Failure to share to Social Media

If an item is meant to send to social media and fails an icon will display next to it on the news item grid.

Upon opening the editor the user will see which social media platform(s) the item has failed to send to.

Re-queuing an item to share to social media

A newsfeed item can be requeued to send to a social media platform by re-saving the news item (“Save and Close” button).

Post formatting

Facebook doesn’t support making posts using rich texts. For this reason if the newsfeed item’s content contains rich text the “Share to…“ buttons will be cleared and an icon with a tooltip will display indicating the formatting needs to be removed.

A user is able to easily remove the styling from the content by highlighting the text and clicking the following button in the editor toolbar

Supported Attachments
