Who's involved, how onboarding works, and where to find your steps

This article explains who's involved in onboarding, how it works, and where to find the steps for your school.

Who's involved

The Onboarding process involves at least three key stakeholders: the Sponsor, Technician/IT Team and Timetabler. Each of these stakeholders plays a critical role in ensuring a successful onboarding experience for your school!

Sponsor

The Compass Sponsor is the main contact between Compass and your school, and are integral to the success of your rollout! The Sponsor will provide the items to build your portal e.g. scheduling information etc.

Technician/IT Team

The Technician/IT Team will work through a number of steps to complete your portal’s technical setup e.g. installing Compasslink on your school’s servers etc.

Timetabler

The Timetabler will work through a number of steps to build your school’s timetable in your portal e.g. providing with timetable files, period structure details etc.

How onboarding works

Onboarding gets your Compass portal set up with your school's data, timetable and staff access, ready for training and Go Live.

1. Find your checklist

Open the collection for your school below and start with "Your onboarding checklist". It lists every action, who does it and the order to do it in.

2. Start the long-lead items first

Some steps depend on a department, a third party or a signature, such as a service account or data sharing agreement. These are marked "Start first" so they don't hold up everything else.

3. Work through your steps at the same time

Your Sponsor, Technician and Timetabler each have their own steps. Each step article tells you who does it, which schools it applies to and what needs to be finished first. Victorian Government schools complete most of their steps themselves in Setup Centre, which opens on the Compass home page.

4. Reach the finish line

When every step is complete, you're ready to start your training and sandpit period in preparation for Go Live.
